San Luis Obispo

Last minute visit to Avila Valley Barn

Sometimes the kids just need to get outside. While the local parks and beach usually fit the ticket, the Avila Valley barn is a go to resource for free family entertainment. By free, I mean there are no entry fees to see the animals and walk the grounds (Other attractions do cost money). You can feed the animals with some lettuce they sell for $1, which our kids love.  Montana and Eddie never get tired of this place, and get excited whenever we mention it. It also has vegetables and fruit for sale, a small restaurant, hay rides, pony rides, and all sorts of special events throughout the year.

Our great Veterans Day meal at Olive Garden in San Luis Obispo and coffee at Starbucks

Starbucks 2015 Holiday Cups

Nothing beats free, especially with the cost of most things on the rise. The added bonus about this day is getting to be around the rest of our brother and sister veterans for a day.

I have to say, one of the best deals anywhere for Veterans is the free entree, with salad or soup at the Olive Garden. The location in San Luis Obispo is usually pretty busy, but well worth it. The staff are exceptionally nice, the food great, and atmosphere fantastic. They go above and beyond to make the experience great for everyone.

For example they ran out of lasagna, and the manager actually came out to apologize and offered a great substitution. Seriously you can't argue with free, but it was a great gesture. We'll definitely return. Any time a business supports our troops and veterans they have our support.

We also picked up our free cup of coffee at Starbucks. I won't get into the recent hype, but I'll post the photos and you decide for yourself. BTW thanks Starbucks!

Kids first train trip - Grover Beach to San Luis Obispo

Montana's dream came true this past weekend. She has been infatuated with the train lately, so Mayra decided to get a few tickets to make that dream a reality.
Since it was the kids first trip, Mayra decided that it should be a quick one-way to see if they liked it. It would suck to book a longer trip and realized that the kids hated it.

Mayra let me go with the kids, while she drove ahead. She said because she got to take Montana to see Cinderella last week, it was my turn:) The plan was to get lunch after the trip, and then visit SLO Donut Company, which got rave reviews on Yelp.
