Eldwayen Ocean Park and Beach Access

 View Park Details

Instead of going to our usual we decided to do a little scouting, and found a map to all the beach access stairs in Pismo.
Eldwayen is where we wound up first. The beaches although separate from all the other areas, don't seem to have individual names.
We're calling it the beach at Eldwayen Park. The park is a narrow strip that literally sits right next to the bluffs overlooking the beach with a steep stairwell down. It has several BBQ areas and is dog friendly as long as the dog is on a leash. There are no restrooms here, so plan accordingly. On this trip we brought our lunch and ate at the picnic tables. It was a little breezy so we had to bring out the light jackets. I think it's a cool little park when you want to visit the ocean, but don't want to deal with the crowds.

Santa Maria Valley Strawberry Festival 2014

We went to the Santa Maria Valley Strawberry Festival for the first time today. We had seen ads running on TV and it looked like a really great time. Since we are busy Sundays we decided to go on Saturday. I was particularly excited to have a Strawberry Shortcake because they were continually shown on their ads.

The Good: The parking was paved. If you’ve ever been to the Kern County Fair, you’re pretty used to parking in dirt. I don’t know it they have other parking, but we arrived early so got a decent spot.

The sights and sounds are great for small children and keep their interest. There were numerous small free areas for young children, which included a putting green, bean-bag toss and more that kept the kids interest for a while.

There was a Strawberry tasting area in a building that gave you three strawberries to rate. I can honestly say the green label was the best, sweetest, strawberry I’ve ever had.

The family bought a new 2016 Toyota Tundra TRD 5.7L V8 CrewMax

It was finally time to buy a new truck. After exhaustive research I decided on a 2016 Toyota Tundra 5.7L CrewMax 4x4.

The last time I owned a truck was around 1992 when I was in the Air Force.

After visiting dealers for a few days, looking at everything we decided we needed certain things in a truck.

1. I needed more legroom than a double cab would offer. Montana is already tall, and Eddie will be as well. Since I don’t buy cars that often I have to plan for the future.

2. I need a 4x4 since we drive on the beach often and plan on visiting the mountains soon.

3. It needed decent tow capabilities. Although were not in the market for a trailer now, I didn’t want to be limited on what it could pull.  Fifth wheels were not in consideration, so there was no need for a larger truck.

4. I also wanted a navigation system.

Oceano Dunes SVRA our go to beach

 View Park Details

The Oceano Dunes SVRA is my favorite beach in the area and here is why.

1. The sand is awesome – Think powdered sugar.

2. You can drive your vehicle on the beach – Imagine your vehicle full of food, the kids, toys, etc. Now instead of having to park in a packed parking lot and having to cart all your worldly belongings in with you, you drive right on.

( *Be advised cars and trucks get stuck in the sand quick. I personally wouldn’t drive a car and if I did, it would only be on the hard pack near the water. IF YOU SPIN YOUR TIRES – STOP – and let some air out of your tires. If you don’t you WILL bury your car and then it’s time to pay for a tow which equals $$$)
